Woody Lander

Elwood "Woody" Lander, age 71, of West, passed away late Thursday evening, February 11, 2021 at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2021 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Deacon Ronnie Sykora officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery near West, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive visitors 9:oo a.m. Monday prior to the service. Very limited capacity, facial masks, and social distancing are required at all services. Woody was born September 22, 1949 in West, the son of Ernest and Goldie (Jantz) Lander. He attended schools in West. He served his country with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. On June 22, 1973, he was united in marriage to Linda Housewright in Waco. Linda preceded him in death on September 16, 2011. Woody worked for McLennan County Precinct 3 for over 37 years until his retirement. He enjoyed gambling and drinking with his friends. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Woody is also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Virginia Odle. Survivors include his sons, Kevin Lander and wife Stephanie of Shady Shores and B.J. Lander and wife Michele of West; his grandchildren, Brett Lander, Raegan Lander, Emma Lander, Faith Lander and Cooper Lander; a sister, LaVerne Kapczynski; a brother-in-law, Basil S. Housewright Jr.; sisters-in-law, Karen Mazanec and husband Michael and Cindy Zapalac and husband Mark; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Macon Mazanec, Brandon Mazanec, Jeff Zapalac, Colin Walker, Ricky Loggins, and Brett Lander. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
