Wilma Kaluza

June 17, 1922 — August 15, 2010

Wilma Kaluza, age 88, of West, passed away early Sunday morning, August 15, 2010 at her residence. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial Celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Kaluza was born June 17, 1922 in McLennan County, near West, the daughter of Joe and Lillian (Smajstrla) Holy. She attended schools in West. On October 28, 1946 she was united in marriage to John F. Kaluza Sr. in West. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2000. Wilma was a homemaker and mother; she also worked for West Egg Products, Lorch Manufacturing, Wolf Manufacturing, and The West News, all in West; and Keaton's Bakery in Waco. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Wilma was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court No. 829 at the K.J.Z.T. St. Ludmila Society No. 11. She enjoyed playing bingo, poker, going to Louisiana, cooking, canning, and raising chickens. Wilma loved spending time with her family, especially having dinner together every Sunday. Her parents; a son, Edward Kaluza Sr.; a granddaughter, Becky Kaluza; a grandson, Christopher Kaluza; a brother, Raymond Holy; and a sister, Margaret L. Nemec; also preceded her in death. Survivors include six sons, John Kaluza Jr. and wife, Patsy, Willie Kaluza, Anton Kaluza and wife, JoAnn, Michael Kaluza and wife, Mary Beth, and Ricky Kaluza, all of West, and Bobby Kaluza of Hillsboro; a daughter, Lillian Macik and husband, David of West; two brothers, Joe Holy Jr. and wife, Lorene and Charlie Holy and wife, Teresa, all of West; a sister, Martha Sinkule of West; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are David Kaluza, Charlie Kaluza, Mark Kaluza, Keith Macik, Chris Hajovsky, and Frank Kucera Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery Association.
