William S. Vochoska, age 85, of West, passed away early Saturday morning, March 17, 2012 at Providence Hospital in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. William was born May 11, 1926 near Abbott, the son of Adolph and Mary (Opella) Vochoska. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II and was discharged in 1945 after being injured in Italy. On June 8, 1947 he was united in marriage to Gerleen Cox in Waco. William worked for William Cameron/CertainTeed Co. in Waco, as a draftsman and supervisor for 36 years before his retirement in 1988. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, the Disabled American Veterans Post #215 in Whitney, and the McLennan-Hill Czech Heritage Society. William won a number of national honors as a Song Bird Wood Carver. He also enjoyed other woodworking, such as making furniture, and dulcimers (a musical instrument) for each of his grandchildren. William is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Deborah Vochoska. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Gerleen Vochoska of West; two sons, Kenneth Vochoska and Stephen Vochoska and wife Vicki, all of West; a brother, Adolph Vochoska, Jr. of Whitney, two sisters, Helen Lucien of Dallas and Jeanette Donnell of Bellmead, four grandchildren, Kenna Whitehead and husband Kirk of Lampasas, Gregg Vochoska and wife Devon and Kayla Stroven and husband Brian all of McKinney, and Brian Vochoska of West; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Gregg Vochoska, Brian Vochoska, Kirk Whitehead, Brian Stroven, Alan Lucien, and Gary Kennedy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
