William M. "Bill" Hooten, Sr., age 98, of Copperas Cove, passed away late Sunday night, May 31, 2015 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco. Graveside Rites with Military Honors will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery with Pastor Bill Bales officiating. A celebration of Bill's life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Pidcoke Methodist Church in Pidcoke. Bill was born October 15, 1916 in Clarksville, Arkansas the son of William and Ida (Self) Hooten. He attended school in Clarksville, Arkansas. On April 14, 1944, he was united in marriage to Mary Kathryn Park in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on April 19, 2006. In serving his country, he joined the United States Army before World War II and was in the military police for twenty-five years until his retirement in 1963. He also was a bus driver for the Copperas Cove Independent School District. Bill was a former member of Grace Methodist Church in Copperas Cove and currently was attending the Pidcoke Methodist Church. Bill was a 60 years member of the Masonic Lodge in Burnet, Copperas Cove Scottish Rite, Copperas Cove Oasis of the Karem Shrine Temple and the Irving Noonday Lion's Club. He coached Little League Baseball for many years and was a Boy Scout Leader in Copperas Cove for many years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, whittling, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bill is also preceded in death by a son, Max Edward Hooten; a brother, Delbert Hooten; and a sister, Evelyn Stevens. Survivors include two sons, William "Bill" Hooten, Jr. and wife Patti of Coppell and Rex Hooten and wife Dr. Dorleen Hooten of Copperas Cove; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Hooten of Menard; 9 grandchildren, Dr. Brian Hooten and wife Michelle, Dr. Chad Hooten and wife Samantha, Lindsey Hooten, Nicole Crawford and husband Bill, Kenneth Hooten and wife Lauren, Amanda Anderson and husband Levi, Jenifer White and husband Chris, Meredith Hall and husband Tyler, Dr. Kristopher Hooten and wife Dr. Claudia Hooten; 11 great-grandchildren, Kendal, Kaden, Whitley, Kemper, Maggie, Steele, Jack, Madison, Danner, Reed and Wyatt and one on the way; and several nieces, nephews, other relative and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pidcoke Methodist Church or Noonday Lion's Club of Irving.
