William A. Hykel, Sr.

William A. "Bill" Hykel Sr., age 81, of Elm Mott, passed away late Saturday evening, January 12, 2013 at his residence. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home. Mr. Hykel was born May 27, 1931 in West, the son of Vince and Anastacia (Ondrasek) Hykel. He was a 1948 graduate of Axtell High School. Bill served his country with the United States Army. On July 9, 1955 he was united in marriage to Bernadette "Bernice" Ondrej in Penelope. Bill worked for Mrs. Baird's Bakeries for over 20 years before retiring in 1993. He also worked for Continental Electronics in Dallas for 14 years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellmead. Bill enjoyed fishing, reading western books, watching television and playing cards and dominoes. He especially loved spending time with his family. Bill is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Brandon Ashley; a great grandson, Chase McCarty; brothers, Jimmy Hykel, Johnny Hykel, Cyril Hykel and Ernest Hykel; a sister, Margaret Masonhall; and a daughter-in-law, Vickie Hykel. Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years, Bernice Hykel of Elm Mott; four sons, Matthew Hykel of Chalk Bluff, Bill Hykel Jr. and wife Jeanne of Venus, Kenneth Hykel and wife Cindy and Glenn Hykel and wife Teresa, all of West; a daughter, Vicki McMullen and husband Mike of Nashville, TN; a brother, Tony Hykel and wife Sylvia; sisters, Lillie Schroeder, Mary Lou Clawson and husband Jimmy and Magadeline Gajdica and husband George; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are his grandsons, Stephen Hykel, Jeremy Hykel, Patrick Kosumsuriya, Charles McCarty, Cody Ochoa, Brett Ashley and Stuart McMullen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elm Mott Fire Department or the charity of your choice.
