Wilfred Anton Rieger, Sr.

Wilfred Anton Rieger Sr., age 77, of West, passed away early Saturday morning, February 14, 2015 at Providence Health Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2015 at St. Martin's Catholic Church, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, with Msgr. Isidore Rozycki and Rev. Michael Ajewole as celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery. Wilfred was born September 3, 1937 in Lott, the son of Andrew A. and Wilhemina (Niekamp) Rieger. He attended schools in Lott and Tours before graduating from West High School in 1956. Wilfred served his country with the United States Army Reserve. On December 31, 1960, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Mynar in Abbott. Wilfred worked for Hardware Wholesale Inc. for 24 years before retiring in 2002. He was a faithful member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours. Wilfred was a standout baseball player for the West Trojan's and later went on to try out for the Milwaukee Braves. He was an active volunteer with the Tours Little League baseball league. He enjoyed playing dominoes, gardening and sports. He was an avid follower of all things baseball, particularly the Texas Rangers. He was a very loving and devoted husband. Wilfred is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Garrett Cinch Rieger. Survivors include his beloved wife of 54 years, Jeanette Rieger of West; four sons, Wilfred Rieger Jr. of West, Alan Rieger and wife Kristy of Hewitt, Kenneth Rieger and wife Lisa of Ross and Garrett Rieger of Chilton; two daughters, Valerie Grimm and husband Pat and Donna Beckham and husband Gilby, all of West; a brother, Charles Rieger and wife Brenda; sisters, Dorothy Scroggins and husband Norman, Lillian McNeil and husband Pat, and Barbara Pressley and husband Barry; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Cody Rieger, Aaron Rieger, Adrian Rieger, Jordan Grimm, Hayden Grimm, Nolan Grimm, Chisum Rieger and Bryar Rieger. Honorary pallbearers are the Do It Best co-workers and his domino buddies. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Hospice, St. Martin's Cemetery Association or West Meals on Wheels.
