Wayne Zapalac

Wayne Zapalac, age 63, of West, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021 at his residence in West. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrant. LIVE STREAM of the service will be provided. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Wayne was born June 19, 1958 in Waco, the son of Jerry and Helen (Smajstrla) Zapalac. He was a 1976 graduate of West High School. On August 21, 1977 he was united in marriage to Melinda Blair in West. Wayne was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He was a also a member of SPJST Lodge #6 in Cottonwood. He was the owner and operator of Zapalac Pest Control and Arrow Pest Control for the past 25 years. He also owned and maintained several rental properties. Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, traveling, camping, playing golf, and kayaking at Broken Bow, Oklahoma. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Steve Wallace; father-in-law, James R. Blair; grandparents, Ed and Annie Smajstrla and Ludvik and Albina Zapalac; and his dog, Prissy Ann. Survivors include his beloved wife of 44 years, Melinda Zapalac of West; two sons, Jason Zapalac and wife Marissa of Centenial, CO and Joshua Zapalac and wife Allison of Highland Ranch, CO; grandchildren, Luke and Madeline Zapalac; a brother, Mark Zapalac and wife Cindy; his mother-in-law, Gladys Blair; a sister-in-law, Jenna Beth Blair; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Emanuel Mitchell, Tom Marek, Mike Cook, Jerry Charanza, Ricky Boyd, and Ricky Schroeder. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Volunteer Ambulance Association or West Rest Haven Memorial Fund.
