Wanda Black

Wanda Black, age 88, of Gholson, passed away Friday, October 27, 2023 at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco.


A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Chris Silva officiating. Burial will follow at Gholson Cemetery.


Wanda was born July 28, 1935 in Waco, the daughter of Albert and Minnie (Findley) Connally. She attended schools in Lacy Lakeview, Gholson and West. On December 12, 1951 she was united in marriage to Neill Black in Waco. Neill preceded her in death on May 26, 2015. Wanda was a member of First Baptist Church of Gholson and was also a member of the Birthday Club in Gholson. She worked for JC Penney's in Temple for 18 years. Wanda enjoyed going to garage sales, playing games, and baking. She loved spending time with family, especially during the holidays.


Wanda is also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Leta Thompson; a son-in-law, Terry Shoemaker; her brothers, James Connally, David Connally, and Elwin Connally; a sister-in-law, Bobbie Sanders; and a granddaughter, Denise Thompson.


Survivors include her three daughters, Marsha Hahn and husband Ronnie of Gholson, Shelly Wilson and husband Larry of Fairfield, and Teresa Shoemaker Zinke of Temple; son-in-law, Edward McCafferty, Jr. of Gholson; eight grandchildren, Greg Thompson, Steven Thompson, Cristie Thigpen, Stacy Slone, Marcus Wilson, Megan Bartlett and husband DJ, Luke Shoemaker and wife Ashley, and Katie Cramer and husband Patrick; eleven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Zachary, Tyler, Brody, Dodger, Laker, Brayden, Jackson, Sophie, Piper, and Barron; sisters-in-law, Debbie Connally, Frances Connally, Marsha Connally, and Mary Rich; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Active pallbearers are Steven Thompson, Luke Shoemaker, Marcus Wilson, DJ Bartlett, Ray Sanders, Justin Harrison, and Mitch Vaughn. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Hahn, Larry Wilson, Vernon Luschner, Patrick Cramer, Tyler Thigpen, and Ed McCafferty.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gholson Volunteer Fire Department.
