Vlasta "Tina" Marek, age 88, of Abbott, passed away late Saturday afternoon, March 13, 2010 at Providence Health Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, with Rev. B. George as celebrant. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Marek was born February 8, 1922 in Hill County, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Lenart) Machovsky. She attended the Treadwell School near Abbott. On November 5, 1945 she was united in marriage to A. D. Marek in West. He preceded her in death on December 25, 1986. Tina was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm until their retirement in 1981. They were charter members of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. Tina loved volunteering for the West Rest Haven for over 10 years. She also enjoyed sewing, playing dominoes, gardening, traveling, and especially going on "visits". She was a member of the K.J.Z.T. Society No. 104 in Abbott. Her parents and an infant sister, Marie Machovsky also preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Harry Marek and wife Shirley of Irving; two daughters, Marie Melton of Duncanville and Lori Mynarcik and husband Danny of Chalk Bluff; four grandchildren, Mendi Whitt and husband Chris, Amy Windham, Adam Bajer, and Amanda Mynarcik; two great granddaughters, Savannah and Madison Whitt; and many other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Danny Mynarcik, Adam Bajer, David Mynarcik, Louis Mynarcik Jr., Willie Hejl, and Stephen Hejl. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, West Rest Haven Memorial Fund, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
