Virginia Webb Anderson, age 87, of Abbott, passed away Monday, June 15, 2009, in Waco. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Dr. Grear Howard officiating, assisted by Wayne Bailey. Graveside services will be held 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Virginia was born April 22, 1922 in West, the daughter of I. M. "Butch" and Alice (Kent) Webb. She graduated with honors from West High School. She also graduated from Hill College and North Texas State Teacher's College in Denton. On December 27, 1946, she was united in marriage to Harold Anderson in West. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1984. Harold and Virginia were owners and operators of the Abbott Hay and Grain Co. and she taught school in Abbott for twelve years before becoming a member of the Hill Co. Superintendent's office. She taught in the Hill County school system until her retirement in 1986 after forty-two years in education. Virginia was affectionately known as "Meme" by her grandchildren and their friends. Her family was her greatest joy. After her retirement, she helped the sick, visited in nursing homes, and wrote many notes of encouragement. She was very active in the Abbott Baptist Church, where she also taught Sunday school. She is also preceded in death by her parents, three year old daughter, Beverly Jean Anderson in 1952; infant son, Harold Keith Anderson in 1958 and Don Loyd Anderson in 2002. Survivors include her daughter, Gina Beth Holman of Hewitt; two brothers, Bobby Webb and wife Joyce of Lorena and John Webb and wife Ann of Allen; four sisters, Fae Hurtt of West, Billie Malone and Betty Winton and husband Jim, all of Waco, Frances Craig and husband Harold of Post, and Shirley Bailey and husband Wayne of Lubbock; four beloved granddaughters, Lesley Griffin and husband Clint of McGregor, Lindsey Chesson and husband Neal of Beaumont, Rebekah Myhre and husband Michael of Ingleside, and Rachel Howard and husband Blake of Amarillo; five great-grandsons, Colton Griffin, Lane Chesson, Hunter Myhre, Jake Myhre, and Connor Howard; one great-granddaughter, Jaycee Chesson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers are Michael Myhre, Blake Howard, Neal Chesson, Clint Griffin, Morris Russell, Gary Malone, and Jimmy Bruce. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Abbott Baptist Church, West Ambulance Association, or the Abbott Community Improvement Organization (ACIO).
