Violeta Davis

Violeta (Smith) Davis, age 85, of West, passed away late Thursday evening, July 22, 2010 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in West, with the Dr. John Crowder officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery near Valley Mills. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Davis was born January 12, 1925 in Bosque County near Clifton, the daughter of John and Mary Helon (Johnson) Smith. On June 7, 1941 she was united in marriage to Loyd W. Davis in Waco. He preceded her in death on September 29, 2002. Violeta was a loving wife, mother, grandmother "Da-doo", great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She worked as a beautician for Reeder's Beauty Shop in Waco for over ten years. She especially loved spending time with her family and attending her great grandchildren's school, church and sporting events. Violeta also enjoyed the company of her chihuahua, "Paco". She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of West and Highland Baptist Church in Waco. She will be remembered as a woman of faith and a love for her family. Violeta was also a member of the V.F.W. Post Ladies Auxiliary in Waco. Her parents; a grandson, Joey Garnett Davis; two brothers, Baker Smith and Lonnie Smith; and two sisters, Lois Johnson Paul and Muriel Smith; also preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Garnett Davis and wife Lenore and Dennis Davis, all of West; a sister, Evelyn Long of Sparks, NV; four grandchildren, Lee Davis and wife, Lisa of San Antonio, Denise Fitzhugh and husband Mike of Waco, Nicole Tekell and husband Cory of Robinson, and Ryan Harvey of Austin; six great grandchildren, Taelor & Drake Davis, Michael & Meaghan Fitzhugh, Laura Blakeslee, and Londyn Hunke; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Lee Davis, Drake Davis, Mike Fitzhugh, Michael Fitzhugh, Cory Tekell, and Jerry Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
