Vernon A. Straten, 79, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013 in Ft. Worth. A rosary will be recited 6:30 p.m. Monday in Skyvue Victoria Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ann's Catholic Church of Burleson with Rev. Will Straten as celebrant. Burial will follow at Skyvue Memorial Gardens. Vernon was born July 6, 1934 in Leroy, the son of Agnes (Podsednik) and George Straten, Sr. He owned and operated a real estate business with his wife, Lucille, after retiring from General Motors. He was a member of the United Auto Workers. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herman Straten, George Straten Jr. and Francis Straten; and sister, Antonette Straten. Survivors include his beloved wife, Lucille Straten; a son, Tommy Straten; a daughter, Diana Straten; stepdaughters, Kathy Stroud and husband, Carter, and Marilyn Barnard and husband, Ken; a stepson, Bruce Mrkos; silbings, Patsy Halmik, Reynold Straten, Dolores Otto, Rita Jurek, Annette Bettge, David Straten, Virginia Bartosh, Johnny Straten and Robert Straten; a granddaughter, Caitlynn Austin; seven step grandchildren; and 18 step great-grandchildren.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
