Verna Wilkerson

Mrs. Nolan (Verna) Wilkerson, age 72, of West, passed away late Wednesday morning, March 7, 2007 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Dr. John Crowder officiating. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Wilkerson was born December 18, 1934 in Sweetwater, Oklahoma, the daughter of Vernon and Crestell (Blaylock) Reese. She attended school in California and Delhi, Oklahoma where she graduated in 1952. On February 14, 1953 she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Nolan C. Wilkerson in Amarillo. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1994. She received her teaching degree from Oklahoma University in Oklahoma City, OK in 1964. She and her husband moved to West in 1965. After moving to West, she received her Master's in English from Baylor University in Waco. She taught 7th grade English in the Waco Independent School District from 1965 until she retired in 1981. Verna enjoyed bowling, golf, playing Wahoo and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Aquilla Baptist Church. She is also preceded in death by a son, Kerry Wilkerson, who passed away on March 2, 1982. Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Allred and her husband Ronald of Aquilla; four grandsons, Nolan Allred and wife Priscella of West, Nathan Allred and wife Micah of China Spring, Neal Allred and wife Victoria of Arlington, and Blake Allred of Aquilla; two granddaughters, Averre and Erin Allred of Aquilla; six great grandchildren, Megan, Victoria, and Emily Allred of West, Ryan Allred of China Spring, and Makenzie and Kyleigh Allred of Arlington; one brother, Robert Reese and his wife Millye of Mesa, AZ; one sister, Neva Wagner and her husband Don of Amarillo; her husband's sister, Lois Nix and her husband Joe of Amarillo; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers will be Ira Bristol, Benny Worley, Jeff Matthews, Kenneth Allred and Blake Allred. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of West Building Fund or Hillcrest Community Hospice.
