Vergie Mae Buckner, age 94, of Gatesville formerly of Waco, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 8, 2025 at Hillside Medical Lodge in Gatesville.
A private memorial service and burial will be held at a later date.
Born on September 8, 1930, in Milam County, Vergie was the daughter of Joseph and Nannie (Key) Salisbury. Her journey through life was marked by love and resilience. In 1961, she married Troy Tacker in Houston, forming a bond that would define much of her life until his passing in 1976. Her professional career also included a warm and welcoming presence as a grocery store clerk. A devoted member of the Elm Mott Church of Christ since 1985, Vergie drew strength and joy from her faith. She found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was cooking for her family, making delicious preserves, or enjoying a game of bingo. Vergie's love for karaoke brought laughter and song into the lives of her friends and family, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Vergie is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Troy Tacker; sons, William Dodd and Mark Dodd; second husband, Ray Rainer; and third husband, Aubrey Buckner.
Survivors include her daughter, Leah Bucklin, of Gatesville; grandchildren, Meagan Parsons and Michael Gerik; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Gerik, Zoie Parsons, Avery Gerik, and Cameron Parsons; 3 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
