Vera Jo Mchargue

Vera Jo McHargue, age 79, of Leroy, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, April 27, 2014 at Providence Health Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Dr. Rex Bland officiating. Burial will follow at Mesquite Cemetery near Mt. Calm. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. McHargue was born January 21, 1935 in Mt. Calm the daughter of Albert and Mary (Jones) Leathers. She attended schools in Mt. Calm. On September 19, 1953 she married the love of her life Lionel McHargue in Waco. After 60 years of marriage Lionel preceded her in death on December 6, 2013. Jo worked at Mexia State School for many years until she retired to help take care of her brother and sisters. She enjoyed spending time with her family, which she loved so much. Jo was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bingo, garage sales, camping, watching her grandchildren play sports, and going with her daughters on outings. She never met a stranger and was loved by all who met her. Jo was very, very proud of her grandchildren's accomplishments. She was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Axtell. Vera Jo is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Clint McHargue; six brothers, Floyd Leathers and wife Marie, Lloyd Leathers, Calvin Leathers and wife Cherry, Troy Leathers and wife Mary, Robert Leathers and wife Katie, Jimmy Ray Leathers; three sisters, Zena Mae Whatley, Ollie Reddel and husband Rudy, and Ethel Baird and husband Howard; and brother-in-law, Bill Lockett. Survivors include four sons, Jerry McHargue and wife Terry of Axtell, Timothy McHargue and Bradley McHargue and wife Holly, all of Leroy and Teddy Clinard and wife Elizabeth of China Spring; two daughters, Reyna Hand and husband Barry of Hoen and Stephanie Klanika and husband Norman of Leroy; a sister, Mary Lockett of Schertz; and many beloved grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Wesley McHargue, Justin Hand, Jaime Hand, Kyle Klanika, Justin Klanika, Clint McHargue, Colby McHargue, Tyler Connally and Brent Petty. Honorary pallbearers are her great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Olive Branch Baptist Church in Axtell or to Mesquite Cemetery.
