Velma Charanza, age 81, of Waco, passed away Thursday evening, June 23, 2005 at St. Catherine Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Christus Chapel at St. Catherine Center in Waco. Funeral services will follow at 11:15 a.m. at the Christus Chapel, with the Deacon Greg George officiating. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Charanza was born on October 2, 1923 in Navarro County, the daughter of William and Florance (Immel) Owens. On February 8, 1947, she was united in marriage to Victor Charanza in Waco. He preceded her in death on October 10, 1991. Velma was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and being a mother. She loved going to garage sales and taking care of her flowers and plants. She worked for ten years at the West Cotton Mill. While a resident at St. Catherine's, she joined the Catholic faith. A great-grandson, Blake Eaton; four brothers, Leroy Owens, Buford Owens, Floyd Owens and Bobby Owens; and one sister, Mozelle Roberson, all precede her in death. Survivors include, four daughters, Linda Sheridan and husband Jerry and Vickie Dean and best friend Audie Wagner, all of Waco, Debra Eaton and husband Gerald of Lacy Lakeview and Brenda Lambright and husband Larry of Riesel; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Pallbearers will be the grandsons, Larry Nelson, Marcus Berry, Donnie Slovak, David Dean, Jamie Dean and Larry Wills Jr. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Community Hospice.
