Valerian Larry Lednicky

Valerian Joseph "Larry" Lednicky, age 76 of Waco, passed away late Thursday morning, November 19, 2009 at St. Catherine Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West by Janice Kaluza, with a visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Lednicky was born January 25, 1933 in West, the son of George and Rosie (Gerik) Lednicky. He attended St. Mary's School and graduated from West High School in 1952 where he excelled in football, track, baseball, and basketball. Larry served his country with the United States Air Force stationed at Biggs Air Force Base in El Paso during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1956. Larry then attended T.S.T.I. in Waco receiving an associate's degree in electronic technology. On March 2, 1957 he was united in marriage to Frances Veselka in Bellmead. Larry worked as an Instrument Technician for General Tire and Rubber Company in Waco for 19 years. He also worked for Collins Radio in Richardson and General Dynamics in Waco. Larry was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West and a former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellmead. He was also a member of the West K.J.T. Society #31, the Bellmead Knights of Columbus, and the Bellmead R.V.O.S. Lodge where he formerly served as lodge treasurer. Larry enjoyed walking, bike riding, photography, camping trips to Port Aransas, fishing, oil painting, gardening and polka music. He was an avid sports fan who especially loved the Dallas Cowboys. Survivors include his beloved wife of 52 years, Frances Lednicky of Waco; a daughter, Sharon Rejcek and husband Anthony of West; three sons, Richard Lednicky and wife Debbie of Waco, David Lednicky and wife Debi of Penelope, and Patrick Lednicky and wife Melinda of Leroy; three brothers, Raymond Lednicky and wife Virginia of Dallas, Robert Lednicky and wife Nicole of West, and Bernard Lednicky and wife Sylvia of Parker; a sister, JoAnn Dubiel of Flower Mound; a sister-in-law, Tillie Nors and husband Bill of Waco; nine grandchildren, Chris Charanza, Shanna Hicks and husband Robert, Derek Lednicky, Deven Lednicky, Dylan Lednicky, Kari Jo Lednicky, Kristen Rejcek, Kevin Rejcek, and Kayla Rejcek; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Stephen Nors, Mark Frazier, Kevin Rejcek, Eric Nors, Cecil Veselka, and Ronnie Sijansky. Memorials may be made to West Ambulance Association, Providence Hospice, or to St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund.
