Tony Squillace, age 86, of West, passed away early Monday morning, January 29, 2007 at West Rest Haven in West. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Squillace was born October 12, 1920 in Amsterdam, New York, the son of Frank and Angelina (Fratzella) Squillace. He attended schools in Amsterdam and graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1938. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart for an injury received. On May 6, 1950 he was united in marriage to Jeanne Hill in Fonda, New York. Tony was an avid sportsman and excelled in many including being a professional boxer and a professional baseball player. He played third base for the New York Yankees in the 1940's. In 1951 they moved to Houston, where Tony work for Finger Furniture Company. In 1977 they moved to West and Tony worked at Harlik's Men's Store and Goldstein-Migel for 15 years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Tony is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Patrick Squillace; two sisters; and seven brothers. Survivors include he beloved wife of 56 years, Jeanne Squillace of West; a daughter, LuAnne Baugh and her husband Melvin of San Antonio; a sister, Rose Altwegg and her husband David of Alexandria, Virginia; two grandsons, Justin Blake Baugh of San Antonio and Michael Patrick Squillace, Jr. of Gholson; a great granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers are Melvin Baugh, Justin B. Baugh, Michael P. Squillace Jr., Mario Scorza, Dennis Hill, and Ed Lednicky. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice.
