Tommy Joe Montgomery, age 82, of Aquilla, passed away late Wednesday morning, November 5, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Nancy Summers and Brother Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the New Lebanon Cemetery near Aquilla. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Tommy was born July 27, 1932 in Aquilla, the son of George Thomas "G.T." and Lillie (Adams) Montgomery. He attended the Lebanon School near Aquilla. On July 24, 1954, he married his sweetheart, Peggy Jo Etter in Waco. In serving his country, he was in the United States Air Force as a fireman during the Korean Conflict. Tommy was a workman of many trades. He worked for Mrs. Baird's Bread Company, Lacy Feed, Du Puy Oxygen Company and Foremost Milk Company which included milk routes in Hillsboro, West and Whitney areas. He drove an egg truck for Plasek Egg Farms, but Tommy's first love was for his farm. His love for the land was raising peanuts for many years and always raising and tending to his cattle. He was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Peggy Montgomery; a daughter Pam Ender and husband Melvin; a son, Steve Montgomery and wife Benita; a brother, Billy Montgomery and wife Judy; a sister, Mary Burkhart; two grandsons, Luke Montgomery and wife Diane and Logan Montgomery and wife Lauren; two precious great granddaughters, Peyton and Paige, who he loved dearly, all of Aquilla; a host of nieces and nephews along with very special friends, Joe Perkins and Brother Don Elrod, and countless other friends. Active pallbearers are Chase Sligh, Mark Mynarcik, Nick Kucera, David Pierce, Drew Bearden, and Terry Buzbee. Honorary pallbearers are Ted Uptmore, Dr. Billy D. Pierce, Jerry Sinkule, Joe Perkins, James Buzbee, Edward Stapleton, James Miller, Basil Tanner, Ronnie Adams and Burl Shelton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Lebanon Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 242, Aquilla, Texas 76622. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Copeland, Dr. Pitts, Dr. Price, and Dr. Sanders, their nurses and staff, the staff at the Providence CHF Clinic, the staff at Encompass Home Health and the staff of Providence Hospice of Whitney. Your care, compassion, and concern went above and beyond in helping us through this difficult time.
