Tom Zatopek

Thomas R. "Tom" Zatopek, age 61, of Weatherford, formerly of Abbott, passed away Saturday morning, August 19, 2023 at his residence.

A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2023 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, with Rev. Stephen Nesrsta as celebrant. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro.

Tom was born September 8, 1961 in Waco, the son of Johnny and June (Walker) Zatopek. He was a 1980 graduate of Abbott High School prior to receiving an associate degree from TSTC. On June 28, 1986 he was united in marriage to Cindy Bruce in Abbott. He was a former member of the Tejas Hunting Retriever Club and Waterloo Amateur Retriever Club. Tom was a project manager for Intertek PSI for over 20 years. He was fiercely proud of his Czech heritage and always had the hook-up for the best places to get sausage and Bar-B-Que. Tom was such a cool easy going guy who never met a stranger and could talk to anyone. He was known as "the historian" who could always remember who, what, when, and where it all happened. Tom possessed a vast self taught musical knowledge, especially Texas related, and played several instruments. He was very loyal, dependable, talented, intelligent, and funny.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Mark Zatopek; his father-in-law, Jimmy Bruce; and sister-in-law, Barbara Bruce.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 37 years, Cindy Zatopek of Weatherford; brothers, John Michael Zatopek and wife Elizabeth of Arlington, and Patrick Zatopek of Abbott; sisters, Susan McGehee and husband Charles of Mosheim, Brenda Rosenberg and husband Murray of The Woodlands, and Gail Guinn and husband Quintin of Hewitt; his mother-in-law, Sue Bruce; a brother-in-law, Jim Bruce; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers are Michael Zatopek, Mark Zatopek, Josh Rosenberg, Katie Rosenberg, Natalie Gaskamp, Meghan Schuetz, David Priddy, and Charles McGehee. Honorary pallbearers are Courtney Zatopek, Pat Zatopek, Karen Zatopek, and Zachary McGehee.
