Tinnie Slovak

Tinnie "Tina" Slovak, age 97, of West, passed away Wednesday evening, March 22, 2006 at West Rest Haven. A rosary will be recited 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Melvin Dornak as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mrs. Slovak was born May 24, 1908 in Anson, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Kalina) Halencak. She attended Monkey Run Schools in Crowell. In January of 1927 she was united in marriage to Frank J. Vanek in Vernon, he preceded her in death in July of 1927. On September 30, 1931 she was united in marriage to Anton A. Slovak in Frederick, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on February 21, 1959. They moved to West in 1949 to raise their family. Tinnie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She was also a member of St. Joseph's Altar Society. Tinnie loved to sing Czech songs, play the accordion, and dance. Gardening was one of her favorite hobbies. She was a caregiver for the elderly and the sick, and enjoyed babysitting and being a Nanny for several children. She was also preceded in death by her sons, Johnny R. Slovak, Jerry T. Slovak and Jimmy Wayne Slovak; her daughters, Dorothy Marie Slovak and Patricia Catherine Slovak; her stepsons Albin Slovak, William Slovak, Adolf Slovak and Raymond Slovak; two grandsons, Greg Jares and Larry Vanek; a great granddaughter, Jamie Leann Jares; and four brothers and five sisters. Survivors include six sons, Frank J. Vanek and wife Alice of Vernon, Robert S. "Bob" Slovak and wife Judy of Corpus Christi, Ernest Slovak and wife Ann of Elm Mott, David Slovak and wife Janell of Elm Mott, and Daniel Slovak and wife Theresa of West; three daughters, Ruth Gerik and husband Fred of West, Shirley Johnson of Waco, and Gladys Jares and husband Melvin of Elm Mott; her daughter-in-law, Hattie Slovak of Abbott; three stepdaughters, Leona Pavlicek of Quinlan, Mary McNary of California and Jody Ennis of Phoenix; 29 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Chris Slovak, Justin Slovak, Russell Slovak, Anthony Jares, Freddie Gerik, Jimmy Slovak, Richard Polansky and Jeff Sexton. Honorary Pallbearers are her Caregivers at West Rest Haven. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Parish Center.
