Ted Kaska, age 87, of West, passed away Saturday morning, May 2, 2009 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery conducted by West V.F.W. Post #4819. Ted was born October 22, 1921 near West, the son of Anton and Janie (Ondrej) Kaska. He attended Alligator School and served his country during World War II with the United States Army. On January 28, 1947, he was united in marriage to Marcella Nors in Abbott. They were the first couple to be married in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. Ted enjoyed woodworking, traveling, watching westerns and the Price is Right on television, and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He worked as a final finisher for General Tire and Rubber Co. for over 25 years before retiring in 1983. Ted was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption where he formerly served as usher. He was also a member of V.F.W. Post #4819, SPJST Lodge #54, and United Rubber Workers Union. Ted is preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Edmund Kaska, Steve Kaska, Jerome Kaska, Wesley Kaska, Alfons Kaska, and Tony Kaska; and one sister, Christine Woods. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marcella Kaska of West; four daughters, Kathleen Kaska and husband Lloyd Broussard of Ft. Worth, Karen Stanford and husband Robert of Crosby, Karla Klyng and husband Jimmy of Santa Fe, and Krisann Price of West; six grandchildren, Rebecca Stanford and friend Evan Dennis, Katherine Klyng, Trey Klyng, Chase Price, Clayton Price, and Connor Price; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Active pallbearers are Clayton Price, Connor Price, Trey Klyng, Lloyd Broussard, Robert Stanford, and Jimmy Klyng. Honorary pallbearers are Chase Price, Rebecca Stanford, and Katherine Klyng. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption Building Fund or to West Rest Haven Memorial Fund.
