Ted Theodore Helm, age 85, of West, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 15, 2022 at his home.
Memorial services will be held on a later date.
Ted T. was born February 23, 1937 in West, the son of Willie Brock and Marion “Ted” Helm. He was a 1957 graduate of West High School and later that same year, married Nelda June Cammack. Ted worked for the Lone Star Gas Company, Waco Frozen Foods, the McLennan County Sheriff’s Department, and even operated a dairy for a short time. Most of his career, approximately 40 years, was spent at the Sheriff’s Department, where he transported prisoners between cities, and then worked as a Bailiff for the 54th District Court. After retiring he continued to work part time as a Bailiff for the Grand Jury Court.
Ted started deer hunting in 1959 with his father-in-law, Horace Cammack and many friends from West. They hunted on a lease between Llano and Fredricksburg for decades and he continued that tradition with his family until the property sold. Ted always enjoyed hunting and collecting antiques and old farm equipment, really anything old and rusty. He also collected knives, guns, anvils, and many other things. Ted loved tinkering in his barn and welding, even creating several Bar-B-Que pits from old propane tanks.
His love and legacy will live on in his wife of 65 years, June; their two sons, Ted Justin Helm and Clayton Jay Helm; their three grandchildren, Ted Justin Helm II, Lacey Brook Masters, and Tanner Jay Helm; as well as several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aquilla Church of Christ.
