Steve N. Kaska

Steve N. Kaska, age 90, of Abbott, passed away early Friday morning, August 4, 2006 at his residence. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott by Janice Kaluza, followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stephen Nesrsta and Msgr. Frank Miller as con-celebrants. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery. Mr. Kaska was born on December 4, 1915 in West, the son of Anton and Janie (Ondrej) Kaska. He attended St. Mary's School in West and Alligator School. On October 24, 1939, he was united in marriage to Katie Soukup in West. He enjoyed farming and worked as a farmer for several years along with construction work. He was a gin manager in Abbott and also worked as an office manager for G & P Seed Company in Aquilla until his retirement. After retirement he joined his wife in baking kolaches for the public. He served as Mayor of Abbott in the 1970's. Steve loved spending time with his family and joining his friends for morning coffee. He was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church which he helped to build. He was also a member of K.J.T. Society No. 107, and a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 11230 in Abbott. His parents; an infant daughter, Janette Marie; one sister, Christine Woods; five brothers, Edmund Kaska, Alfons Kaska, Jerome Kaska, Wesley Kaska and Anton Kaska Jr., all preceded him in death. Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Katie Kaska of Abbott; two sons, Ron Kaska and wife Rose Ann of Abbott and Steve Kaska Jr. and wife Judy of Waco; two daughters, Joan Thoede and husband Don of Clifton and Nancy Sustala and husband Bill of Abbott; one brother, Ted Kaska and wife Marcella of West; six grandchildren, Ryan Kaska and wife Aprille, Ronda Ballew, Karen Knight and husband Brian, Phil Sustala and wife Kim, Roger Kaska and friend Julie Kempson, Amanda Ziegler and husband Chris; four great-grandchildren, Kyndall and Michael Kaska and Ashley and Morgan Ballew; and a future great-grandson, Riley Morgan Sustala; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be the grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Youth Fund, West Ambulance Association or Bridgeway Hospice.
