Sophie Bazant

Sophie (Kocian) Bazant, age 93, of West, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 30, 2013 at Regent Care Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home. Mrs. Bazant was born on July 27, 1919 in West, the daughter of Pete and Millie (Nors) Kocian. She attended Alligator Creek School and on October 7, 1940 was united in marriage to Rudolph Bazant in West. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1996. Mrs. Bazant was a homemaker and also worked for the Lorch Manufacturing Company as a seamstress. She was a member St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption and K.J.Z.T. Lodge #11 in West. She enjoyed listening to Czech music, gardening, dancing, quilting, and canning. Mrs. Bazant is also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Neal Plemons; a brother, William Kocian; and two sisters, Albina Pavelka and Martha Lander. Survivors include a son, Raymond Bazant and wife Lesley of The Colony; two daughters, Gina Plemons and Kathy Birkes and husband Tom, all of Crawford; a sister, Lillie Laubert and husband Ollie of West; five grandchildren, Mendee Moore and husband Joe and Clay Plemons and wife Lesley, all of Crawford, Brian Birkes of China Spring, Lesley-Anne Bazant of Costa Mesa, CA. and Natalie Bazant of The Colony; three great-grandchildren, Triston, Zachery, and Niellee; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Brian Birkes, Clay Plemons, Joe Moore, Richard Laubert, Larry Lander and Raymond Pavelka. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Rest Haven Disaster Relief Fund, P.O. Box 478, West, Texas, 76691. The family would like to thank West Rest Haven, Regent Care Center and Providence Hospice for the excellent care and love given to their mother during her time at their facilities.
