Sidney E. Cash, age 87, of West, passed away early Tuesday afternoon, August 26, 2008 at West Rest Haven. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. The family will also receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Herndod-Pharr Funeral Home in Hope, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Hope. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens. Sidney was born on November 22, 1920 in Nevada County, AR, to Joseph Robert and Audie Pearl (Avery) Cash. He spent much of his life in the Hope area and graduated from Emmett High School in Arkansas. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. On November 22, 1941, he was united in marriage to Thelma Jane Horsley and spent several years on the family farm in Hope. They made several moves over the years but spent most of their time in Waco, TX until he retired back to Hope in 1984. In 2003, they moved back to Texas to be near their son. Sidney was active in the First United Methodist Church in Hope where he sang in the choir. He was also active in the Elm Mott United Methodist Church near his home in West. He was active in the Amateur Radio Club and worked with the Civil Defense in Hope. He was a member of the Whitfield Lodge #239 Free and Accepted Masons in Hope, AR, and the Fidelis Lodge #1127 in Waco, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Melvin Cash. Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Thelma Cash of West; two sons, Robert Cash and wife Janet of Orange Park, FL and Billy Cash and wife Rosa of West; one brother, Rodney Cash of Cleveland, TN; two sisters, Oleta Hatch of Texarkana, TX and Donita Daniels (Elmer) of Hope, AR; one sister-in-law, Peggy Cash of Isabella, TN; three grandsons, Michael Cash and wife Jenny of Walnut Creek, CA, Anthony Cash and wife Tarah of Ladson, SC and Jeremy Cash and wife Allison of Huntsville, AL; one great-grandson, Tristan Cash; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be the grandsons and immediate family. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Artie Sudan (Waco), Dr. George Smith (West), and the staff of West Rest Haven who provided excellent care during his final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elm Mott United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.
