Shirley Skopik

Shirley Skopik, age 87, of Waco, passed away early Saturday evening, December 31, 2022 at St. Catherine's Center in Waco.

Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2023 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Billy Edwards officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.  The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday.

Shirley was born July 15, 1935 in Datura, the daughter of Guy and Beulah (Hancock) Capehart. She was a 1953 graduate of Mexia High School. On May 7, 1977 she was united in marriage to Edward Skopik in Waco. Edward preceded her in death on September 1, 2003. Shirley was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Waco.  She ran Shirley's Beauty Shop for many years, as well as worked as a beautician at Lana's Beauty Shop and West Rest Haven. Following retirement, she worked part-time at Tennyson school. Shirley was served on the board of directors at West Fraternal Auditorium and volunteered at Westfest. She enjoyed dancing, bird watching, gambling in Louisiana, cooking, and watching Wheel of Fortune. Shirley always had a positive outlook on life. She loved spending time with her family, especially at family reunions.

Shirley is also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dan Capehart; and a sister, Audrey "Mozelle" Vannatta.

Survivors include her children, Mike Denton and wife Susan of Prairie Hill and Sherri Denton of Waco; her stepchildren, Richard Skopik of Woodway, David Skopik and wife Janet of McGregor, Larry Skopik and wife Wendy of Elm Mott, and Janet Skopik of Lake Jacksonville; brother, Howard Capehart; grandchildren, Brandon Denton and wife Jennifer, Ashley Hardin and husband Travis, Jason Jones, and Thomas Elliott; great-grandchildren, Bryson Denton, Landon Denton, Avery Denton, and Emma Hardin; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are Jason Jones, Thomas Elliott, Brandon Denton, Travis Hardin, Larry Skopik, David Skopik, Richard Skopik, and Jose Gonzalez.
