Scottie Lou (Vardiman) Isham, age 88, of West, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, April 21, 2024 at Ridgecrest Retirement Center in Waco.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Scottie was born January 16, 1936 in Killeen, the daughter of Boyce Taylor Vardiman and Scottie Marie Arnold Vardiman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emory James Isham on October 17, 2015; her son, Kenneth Luckey Harris, Jr.; her brother, Boyce Vardiman and his wife, Jane Vardiman; her brother, Dr. John Vardiman; niece, Deborah Vardiman; and great niece, Taylor Mosley.
Scottie was a graduate of Killeen High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Southwestern University in Georgetown, and later a Nursing Degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. On February 4, 1980, she was united in marriage to Emory James Isham in Haltom City. Scottie had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro, and attended services as long as she was physically able. She was a gifted pianist and organist and loved playing the pipe organ at First Presbyterian. She worked as a Registered Nurse for a career totaling more than 20 years at the VA Hospital in Waco and later the VA Hospital in Marlin. After she retired, she and husband Emory, who she fondly called "Ish", travelled all over the country and parts of Canada in their travel trailer. After "Ish" passed away, Scottie spent her time visiting family, reading, working cryptogram puzzle books, and playing with her cat, Precious.
Scottie is survived by daughter, Anne Harris and spouse, Jennifer Morrison of Quinlan; daughter, Carmen Burkhart and husband, Brian Burkhart of Holland; stepchildren, James Isham, Jr. and wife, Kathy of Lorena; Terry Isham of Waco; daughter-in-law, Holly Harris of West; sister-in-law, Bradna Vardiman of San Antonio; grandchildren, Jud Harris and wife, Dani; Jarrod Harris; Heath Harris and wife, Jacqie; Andrea Longoria and husband, Joseph; step-grandsons, Perry Burkhart, and Stephen Isham and wife Betty; step-granddaughter, Jennifer Fuller and husband, Brad; niece, Rebecca Vardiman and partner, Regina; niece, Harriet Vardiman and husband, Phil; nephew Dr. Arnold Vardiman and wife, Traci; niece, Rose Billingsley and husband, Wade; and several great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro.
