She was also an elementary school teacher, teaching children in places like Shawnee, OK; Elkart, KS; West, TX; Paonia, CO; and the Wind River Indian Reservation near Lander, WY; before retiring in 1985. Most recently she was a member of the Macon Baptist Church, where she was active in the Women's Mission Union. Her parents and a brother, Kenneth Robertson, preceded her in death. Survivors include her beloved husband of 54 years, Rev. Jack Gardner of Scroggins; two sons, Gary Gardner of Scroggins and Greg Gardner and his wife Christi of Sand Springs, OK; one daughter, Glenda Chartier and her husband Dennis of Ft. Worth; seven grandchildren, Valerie Payne, Timothy Payne, Mike Gardner, Sarah Gardner, Mickey Gardner, Jimmie Gardner, and Tommy Gardner; one great granddaughter, Madison Gardner; one sister-in-law, Betty Jo Robertson of Liberty City; the Chartier family; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Macon Baptist Church Missions Fund.
