Ruth Velek Johnson of Waco, passed away Friday morning, September 1, 2006 at her residence. Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, September 4, at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West; with Father Melvin Dornak, as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West. The family will receive visitors from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday at Kotch Funeral Home in West. Mrs. Johnson was born and raised in West and lived in Waco most of her life. She was the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Bessie) Soukup Velek. She was a retired employee of Owens-Illinois Glass Plant in Waco, and a member of St. Louis Catholic Church. She married Truett Johnson on July 18, 1968 in Waco. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, a daughter, Cindy Blair and a sister, Dorothy Barron. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband Truett Johnson of Waco, two sons; James (Bo) Blair of Waco and Tom Blair of McGregor; two daughters, Cheryl Birdwell of Axtell and Nancy Linkous of Waco, a sister Rosie Thrower of Houston, twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Active Pallbearers are Bryan Blau, Tom Blair, Billy Linkous, Ty Claldwell, Bobby Birdwell and Tommy Tanner. Kotch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
