Ruth Cowan, age 82, of Waco, passed away early Saturday afternoon, January 6, 2007 at her residence, surrounded by her family. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at White Rock Cemetery near Ross, with the Chaplain Ann Pennington officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Ms. Cowan was born on December 7, 1924 in West, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Shoemaker) Tennison. She attended Alligator School and other schools in the West area. In 1944 she was united in marriage to William Carl Cowan in Waco. He preceded her in death on January 28, 1980. Ruth worked for Fox Photo in Waco for over twenty years, before going to work for M & M Mars in Waco where she was for over twenty years until her retirement in 2001. Ruth enjoyed playing bingo and reading. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by four brothers, Bernard Tennison, Billy Joe Tennison, John Tennison and Pat Tennison; and two sisters, Lovie Thomas and Mary Ella Penual. Survivors include one daughter, Donna Dunn of Temple; two sons, Ronald Cowan of Oakland, California and Larry Cowan of Waco; two brothers, Ross Tennison of Dawson and Jimmy Tennison and wife Shirley of Ross; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
