Ruby Lois Douglass, age 61, of San Antonio, passed away Saturday morning, December 22, 2018.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrant.
Ruby Lois was born to Benjamin and Evelyn (Bezdek) Hanak on April 6, 1957 in Ft. Worth. She attended Blanton Elementary School, Carter Junior High School, and graduated in 1975 from Sam Houston High School in Arlington. She later received a degree in Fashion Merchandising from Bauder Fashion College. Ruby worked at Sanger Harris, Dillards and Lillie Rubin as a sales associate and assistant manager. She later worked in advertising for the Thrifty Nickel and the Sacramento Bee. Ruby married the love of her life, Kennneth Douglass, on March 28, 1980 in Arlington. They welcomed their first precious daughter, Lauren Lynn, on October 24, 1982 in Austin. They completed their family with the birth of their darling daughter, Meredith Ann on January 17, 1988 in Arlington. Ruby's will to live was strong and her Christian faith was even stronger. She is loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; her father, Benjamin Hanak; her brother, Ben Hanak; her nephew, Johnnie Hanak; her niece, Everlee Crowell; and brothers-in-law, Bob Wood and Brad Nelson.
Ruby is survived by her daughters, Lauren Keck and husband Daniel and Meredith Keck and husband Jonathon; her mother, Evelyn Hanak; her sisters, Shirley Wood and Deborah Lackey and husband Dan; her grandchildren, Aidan, Taylor, and Oliver Keck; her nieces, Lisa Wood, Diana Crowell and husband Jesse, and Calista Lackey; her nephews, Scott Nelson and wife Ioney, and Collin and Alec Lackey; and many other relatives and friends.
