Rozell "Jack" Quillian, age 94, of Gholson, passed away early Monday afternoon, March 26, 2012 at Providence Healthcare Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Gholson, with Rev. Jimmy Sansom, Rev. Israel Steverson and Rev. Billy Mack Patteson officiating. Burial will follow at Gholson Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Quillian was born September 3, 1917 in the family home in Gholson, the son of Jeff and Mary Jane (Rozell) Quillian. He attended school in Gholson and graduated from West High School in 1937. He then attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcus. On June 6, 1943 he was united in marriage to his first grade classmate, Sallie Mitchiner in Aquilla. He served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. Jack was a longtime and faithful member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Gholson where he taught Sunday School, was on the church council and was a chairman for the Lords Acre. He worked for General Tire and Rubber Company for 33 years until his retirement in 1976. He owned and operated The Pecan Place in Gholson where he hosted a daily coffee group, where they could solve all the world's problems. He enjoyed golfing and coaching for the Gholson boy's basketball league in the 50's. He loved sports, especially Baylor and the Dallas Mavericks. Jack is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vernon C. Quillian and George W. Quillian; and a son-in-law, Phillip R. Baxter. Survivors include his beloved wife of 68 years, Sallie Quillian; two daughters, Mary Ann Baxter of Clear Lake and Jinger Myers and fiance, R.J. Walton of Gholson; a nephew, W.E. "Bill" King and wife Nancy; a niece, Gwendolyn Kordzik and husband Kenneth; and many other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Robert Nors, David Nors, Kelley Brisco, E.C. Evans, Mitch Vaughn, Bobby Carpenter, Danny Goates and Jesus Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers are Blake Gassaway, Orien Bagley, Darwin Kelley, Bill O'Neal, Lee Reddell and Ricky Adair. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Gholson. The family would like to thank the Atrium Family for their kind service and compassion, Providence Hospice and most especially his friends and loved ones who prayed, called, sent cards and visited.
