Rosie (Soukup) Knapek, age 86, of Axtell, passed away early Saturday morning, April 5, 2014 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel by Deacon Ronnie Sykora, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Joy Adimakkeel as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosie was born August 6, 1927 in West, the daughter of Joe and Mary (Kracmer) Soukup. She attended the Tokio and Denton Hill Schools and was a graduate of Abbott High School. On December 29, 1945 she was united in marriage to Raymond A. Knapek in Penelope. Raymond preceded her in death on March 2, 2007. Rosie and Raymond were farmers and ranchers for most of their life. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellmead. Rosie was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, a 34 year sponsor of the McLennan County Junior Livestock Show, an honorary member of the Axtell Future Farmers of America and was voted "outstanding farmer" by the McLennan County Conservation Group. She enjoyed Czech music, dancing, cooking, sewing and gardening. She loved visiting with family and friends and taking care of her farm animals. Rosie is also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Louis Soukup, George Soukup, Joe Soukup and Johnnie Soukup; and two sisters, Katie Kaska and Hattie Kaska. Survivors include two brothers, Al Soukup and wife Georgie of Robinson and Steve Soukup and wife Frances of West; two sisters, Mary Neckar and Lillian Matus and husband Raymond; sister-in-law, Evelyn Soukup, all of West; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Larry Knapek, Brian Sykora, David Pavelka, Thomas Matus, Danny Neckar and Ronnie Kaska. Honorary pallbearers are James Landfried, Kyle Tucker and Current and Former Members of Axtell F.F.A. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
