Rosalee B. Urbis, age 94, of West, passed away early Friday afternoon, November 16, 2012 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home. Mrs. Urbis was born April 8, 1918 in Tours, the daughter of John and Mary (Peters) Smajstrla. She attended schools in West and was a 1936 graduate of West High School. On August 5, 1940 she was united in marriage to Harry J. Urbis in Waco. Harry preceded her in death on July 28, 1981. Rosalee was a homemaker, Mother, and served as the office manager for the West Cotton Gin for many years. She was a longtime faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Rosalee was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America court #829, K.J.Z.T. St. Ludmila Society #11, S.P.J.S.T. Cottonwood Lodge #6, Czech Heritage Society, and the Bluebonnet Garden Club. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, painting, and doing many arts and crafts. Rosalee is also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Harriet Marie Urbis; and three brothers and five sisters. Survivors include a son, Patrick Urbis and wife Joan of Westphalia; sisters, Evelyn Cunningham and Jonnie Lou Yowell; step grandchildren, Madison and Landon Voltin; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are her nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Senior Ministry.
