Ronny Gilbert

Ronny Gilbert, age 86, of Marlin, passed away late Monday afternoon, September 20, 2021 at Falls Community Hospital in Marlin. Memorial Graveside Service with Masonic Graveside Rites will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 27, 2021 at White Rock Cemetery near Ross, with Rev. Susan Robb officiating. Ronny was born August 22, 1935 in Waco, the son of the late Raymond and Vercie (Gorham) Gilbert. He was a 1953 graduate of La Vega High School. On April 25, 1963 he was united in marriage to Rebecca "Becky" Donnell in Groesbeck. Ronny was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marlin. He was also a member of Waco Masonic Lodge #1127, Waco Shriners, Waco Elk's Lodge, and the Marlin Country Club. Ronny was the owner of Ward's Liquor Store in Waco for several years until retiring in 1995. He also worked for General Tire and Rubber Company and was a fireman for the Waco Fire Department. Ronny enjoyed playing golf, sitting outside watching the birds, hunting, and traveling. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Becky Gilbert of Marlin; his children, Ron Fangio and wife Enza of McKinney, Scott Lewis and his partner Andrew Sinclair of London, England, Brad Gilbert and wife Amanda of West, and Vicki Merritt and John Hurst of Elm Mott; his grandchildren, Clayton Merritt and wife Ashley, Kayla Fuentes and husband Nick, Preston Merritt and wife Haley, and Grant Gilbert; five great grandchildren, Zoie, Hendrix, Lincoln, Emmitt, and Nolan; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scottish Rite Children's Hospital.
