Ronny A. Rigney, age 74, of Waco, passed away late Saturday afternoon, September 3, 2011 at Providence Health Center in Waco. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Woodway with Jeff Fritscher officiating. Private graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Ronny was born September 4, 1936 in Ft. Worth, the son of Aaron S. and Zuma (McCally) Rigney. He attended schools in Waco and graduated from Waco High School in 1955. He received a degree in criminal justice from Baylor University in 1976. Ronny also graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1977. On June 28, 1958 he was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Buchanan in Waco. Ronny was a police officer for many years for the city of Waco and was Chief of Police for the City of Whitney. He also worked for Citizens National Bank and First City Financial, both in Waco. Ronny retired in 2000. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, and traveling. He especially loved spending time with his family and attended all their sporting events. He was a member of the Waco Police Association and the Texas Municipal Police Association, where he served as past president of both. He was also a member of the Waco Masonic Lodge No. 92, the Waco Scottish Rite, and Karem Shriners. Ronny is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bucky Rigney; and his father-in-law, Tilley Buchanan. Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Nancy Ann Rigney of Waco; a son, Charlie Rigney and wife Elizabeth, of Waco; his mother-in-law, Faron Buchanan of Waco; a sister-in-law, Kay Buchanan of Owings Mills, MD; six grandchildren, William Rigney, Reagan Rigney, Amber George and husband Tony, Joshua Rigney and wife Marcie, Brandon Rigney and Fiance Amanda Kubala, and Talon Rigney; four great grandchildren, Holden and Collin George and Grant and Indiana Rigney; and many other relatives and friends. Honorary pallbearers are past and present officers of the Waco Police Department. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Midway Little League Association, Midway Education Foundation or Waco I.S.D. Education Foundation.
