Ronnie Gladen McCartney, age 81, a lifelong resident of Gholson, passed away Tuesday evening, August 27, 2024 at his residence.
A celebration of life will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. James Stevens officiating. Burial will follow at Gholson Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Ron was born September 5, 1942 in Waco, the son of Martin "Tommy" and Helen (Bettinger) McCartney. He attended Gholson Schools and was a 1961 graduate of West High School before receiving a bachelor's degree in real estate and marketing from Baylor University. Ron was a Lifetime Member of the Texas Builders Association, a past president of Heart of Texas Builders Association, and served on the Gholson City Council. He was a building contractor and a real estate developer. Ron enjoyed golfing, fishing, collecting classic cars, traveling, studying history, and planning residential developments. He was known as a devoted family man who loved spending time with family and visiting with friends.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sharon Faye Saunders and her husband, James; and a nephew, Chad Saunders.
Survivors include his cousins, Larry Joe McCartney and wife Janet, Terrie McCartney-Knudsen and husband Martin, Barbara Breen, and Jerry Frank McCartney and wife Mary; a niece, Lisalette Rowland; a uncle, James Bettinger; a special friend and caregiver, Kristi Butts; dear friends, Francisco Gonzales and wife Alma and Joe Mashek; and many other relatives and friends. Ron is also survived by his fur-baby, Cooper.
Active pallbearers are Gary McCartney, Jason McCartney, Chaz Rowland, Ronnie Guinn, Darren Bettinger, and Robby Guinn. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Mashek, Francisco Gonzales, and Larry Don McCartney.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gholson Cemetery Association.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Amedysis Hospice, especially Leslie and Crystal for their care of Ron.
