Ronald C. Leidig

Ronald C. Leidig, age 64, of West, passed away early Friday morning, June 15, 2012 at his residence. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at Moore Cemetery near Chalk Bluff, with David Mercer officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Ronald was born September 2, 1947 in Waco, the son of Richard Larson and Dorothy (Spillman) Leidig. He was a graduate of Connally High School and attended Hill Junior College, McLennan Community College and T.S.T.C. Ronald served his country with the United States Army with the "Green Beret" during the Vietnam War and received many decorations including the Bronze Star, National Defense, Army Commendation for Valor, and Vietnam Campaign Medals. He also received a marksmanship badge with rifle bar, combat medical badge and parachutist badge. He was honorably discharged at the rank of E-5 in 1969. On October 3, 1983 he was united in marriage to Mary Heng in Waco. Ronald and Mary owned and operated the Gholson Grocery Store for over 25 years. He enjoyed scuba diving, horseback riding, sailing, and listening to Country, Jazz, and Blues music. Ronald is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dickie Leidig. Survivors include his beloved wife of 28 years, Mary Leidig of West; two sons, Jason Leidig and wife Kirstin of Waco and Larson Leidig of Ft. Worth; a brother, David Mercer and wife Linda; a sister, Gloria Bittle and husband Louis; four grandsons, Nate, Jadon, Xander, and Ryker; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Jason Leidig, Larson Leidig, Tommy Lanier, Louis Bittle Jr., James Martin Jr., and Norbert "Bubba" Schmidt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Hospice.
