Roman Anton Holecek

March 5, 1918 — May 20, 2013

Roman Anton Holecek, age 95, of West, passed away late Monday night, May 20, 2013 at Providence Health Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, with Msgr. Isidore Rozycki and Rev Michael Ajewole, MSP as celebrants. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Holecek was born March 5, 1918 in Tours, the son of Andrew and Katherine (Wolfe) Holecek. He attended schools in Tours prior to attending Santa Clara University in California. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II. On November 22, 1945 he was united in marriage to Emma Ann Deiterman in Santa Clara, California. Emma preceded him in death on March 5, 2005. Roman was a salesman for the Saint Claire Laundry for many years before retiring in 1987. They then moved back to Tours, Texas. He was a very faithful member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4819 and the Model A Ford Club in Santa Cruz, California, where he served as past president. He enjoyed playing golf, attending yard and estate sales, playing dominoes, watching baseball, and rebuilding Model A Fords and old Bicycles. Roman is also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Andrew Holecek, Victor Holecek, Jody Holecek, Francis Holecek and Lawrence Holecek; and sisters, Christine Holecek, Gertrude Jupe and Hattie Holecek. Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Erdrich and husband Mark of Elk Grove, California and JoAnn Manchester of Aquilla; grandchildren, Katherine Murphy and Dylan Manchester; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Dylan Manchester, Mark Erdrich, Lyndon Middleton,Greg Marek, Ricky Schroeder and Scooter Zucha. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Relief Fund for the West Rest Haven.
