Roland H. Janek

Roland Harding Janek, age 83, of West, passed away Tuesday morning, April 4, 2006 in Waco. A rosary will be recited 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:15 a.m. Thursday St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Roland was born on December 6, 1922 in Penelope, the son of John and Viola (Cinek) Janek. He attended schools in Rowena and on June 26, 1954 he was united in marriage to Olivia Glatter in West. He was a WWII Veteran and worked as a salesperson for West Lumber Company for more than 40 years before retiring in 1985. After his retirement, he took care of the West Little League fields and farmed with Kaska Brothers. He loved gardening, working crossword puzzles, and doing woodcrafts. Roland was a member of St. Anne's Altar Society and St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. His parents and his son, Ernest "Ernie" Janek who died March 17, 1997, precede him in death. Survivors include his wife, Olivia Janek of West; two daughters, Cheryl Kaska and her husband Norbert and Judy Marek and her husband Dale, all of Abbott; his daughter-in-law, Debbie Janek of Abbott; ten grandchildren, Christopher Janek and his wife Jenipher, Kevin Janek and his wife Heather, Jason Janek and his wife Lori, John David Janek and his wife Leslie, Amy Beseda and her husband Paul, Chad Kaska and his fianc Katie Tufts, Justin Kaska, Sara Kaska, Bradley Marek and his wife Alison, and Lindsey Marek and her fianc Jerret Wilbourn; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers are his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are his granddaughters. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Parish Center, West EMS, or Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Youth Fund.
