Robert Richard Hykel, age 81, of Edgewood, formerly of West, passed away early Friday morning, January 8, 2016, at Canton Oaks Care Center in Canton. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2016, at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with the Rev. Vincent Romuald as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. Robert was born June 9, 1934 near West, the son of Edd and Vlasta Hykel. He attended schools in West and was in the United States Army during the Korean War. On May 13, 1961 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Adamcik in West. Dorothy preceded him in death on March 16, 2000. He was then united in marriage to Hughleen Howell Fain on June 20, 2002 in Mesquite. Robert worked for Pollack Paper Company in Dallas for 42 years before retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Oak Cliff , and later, St. Francis of Assisi in Lancaster. Robert was also a member of the American Legion Post #478 in West. He enjoyed working outside, fishing, and most of all, gardening. Robert is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward "Shorty" Hykel, Joe "Yoba" Hykel; sister, Rosalie Karlik; and baby brother Victor Hykel. Survivors include his beloved wife, Hughleen Hykel of Edgewood; sons, Mark Hykel and wife Christi of Lowry Crossing, David Hykel of Lindsey and Chris Hykel and wife Susan of McKinney; step daughters, Cynthia Ramsey and husband Andy of Edgewood and Sharon Grintz and husband Darrell of Leonard; step sons, David Fain of Granbury and Tommy Fain and wife Valerie of Sachse; brothers, Harry Lee Hykel and wife Mary Ann and Patrick "Butch" Hykel and wife Joanie; a sister, Caral Ann "Tootsie" Lehman and husband Richard; sisters-in-law, Brenda Hykel and Barbara Hykel; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Larry Rejcek, Phillip Grintz, Darrell Grintz, Justin Ramsey, Steve Karlik, Gene Hykel, and Keith Hykel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Lung Association or American Heart Association.
