Robert Michael Paul, age 57, of West, passed away early Saturday morning, September 23, 2023, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 29, 2023, at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Ron Davis officiating. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. to service time.
Robert was born September 14, 1966, in Mötsch, Germany, near Bitburg Air Force Base, the son of Joe Bob and Margot (Dörr) Paul. He was a 1984 graduate of West High School and a 1994 graduate of Baylor University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
On June 11, 1994, he was united in marriage to Clare Satterfield at First Baptist Church in Liberty, Texas. They were introduced by a mutual friend five years earlier. His future father-in-law suggested to him that he wouldn’t give away his daughter to someone without a college education. So, Robert enrolled in Baylor the next semester, and the rest is history.
A long-time member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco, Robert was active in the Joshua Class, Royal Ambassadors, and a member of the Men’s Cook Team.
He started his career as an associate with K-mart and assistant manager with Wal-Mart after college, but for the past 24 years, he has worked in the policy services department for American Amicable Life Insurance Company in Waco.
In his spare time, Robert enjoyed watching sports (especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Boston Red Sox, and UMHB Crusader softball), barbecuing, and knife sharpening. He did his share of coaching Little League softball and baseball, as well as some pee wee football. He also spent many weeknights and weekends in the outfield or down the right field fence, cheering on his favorite softball player from T-ball to college. Or yelling from the stands during pee wee, junior high, and high school football games. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson.
A strong, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Robert will be missed deeply. We rejoice that his cancer is healed and that he is no longer in any pain.
Robert is preceded in death by his father, Joe Bob Paul, and his parents-in-law, Louis and Peggy Satterfield.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 29 years, Clare Paul of West; his mother, Margot Paul of West; his children, Joseph Paul and wife Erin of Seabrook and Elisabeth Paul of Belton; his grandson, Cash O'Brian Paul; a sister, Christina Aycock and husband Brian of Corpus Christi; a nephew, Trent Stiles; a niece, Alexandra Aycock and her fiancée Jase Little; and many other relatives and friends.
Honorary pallbearers are Joseph Paul, Donald Griffin, Troy Meinen, Martin Montgomery, Greg Wilmoth, Paul Churchman, Brennon Arnold, Monte Cooper, Clay Smith, Terry Mathis, Trent Stiles, and Brian Aycock.
The family wishes to express its deepest appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Thank you, Dr. Maniakas and Dr. Busaidy, for working so hard to give him as much time as possible.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the MD Anderson Cancer Center ( gifts.mdanderson.org ) or the Humane Society of Central Texas ( humanesocietycentraltexas.org/donations ).
