Robert Kucera

Robert "Bobby Joe" Kucera, age 80, of Penelope, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019 at his residence. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Penelope, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant, assisted by Deacon Denver Crawley. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Penelope, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. Robert was born August 14, 1939 in Penelope, the son of Wilson and Lillian (Karlik) Kucera. He was a 1957 graduated from Penelope High School. On May 26, 1962 he was united in marriage to Judy Dodson in Penelope. Judy preceded him in death on April 23, 2009. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, joining in 1962. Robert and his wife owned and operated the Kucera Service Station in Penelope for over 20 years. He also worked for Downing Brothers, Westex Welding, Alvin Gehrels Bulldozing and read meters for the Penelope Water Supply Corporation. Robert was a lifelong member of The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. He was also a member of the KJT Society #50 in Penelope, the Penelope Volunteer Fire Department, and was a former Mayor for the City of Penelope. Robert enjoyed working on the farm, tending his cattle, playing Taroky, and camping and skiing at Lake Navarro Mills. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. Robert is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bernard Kucera; in-laws, Roy and Ivy Lou Dodson; sister-in-law, Minnie Dodson; nephews, Michael Kucera and Steven Kucera; and nieces, Donna Dodson and Cherie Dodson. Survivors include his two brothers, Johnny Kucera and wife Claudine of Penelope and David Kucera and wife Susan of Mt. Calm; nieces, Janice Chase and husband Rodger, Paula Dodson, Cindy Ruff and husband Bruce, Amy Redden, and Toni Townsend; nephews, Phillip Kucera, Joshua Kucera and wife B.J., Kyle Kucera and wife Lety, Thomas Kucera, Shawn Dodson, and Richard Dodson Jr.; brothers-in-law, Jerrell Dodson and Richard Dodson and wife Lynn; and many great nieces, great nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Rodger Chase, Phillip Kucera, Joshua Kucera, Kyle Kucera, Thomas Kucera and Brandon Rutledge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Penelope Volunteer Fire Department.
