Robert Floyd Smajstrla, age 89, of Burleson, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 10, 2015 in Burleson, surrounded by his family. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Ann Catholic Church in Burleson. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 16, 2015 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Burleson, with Rev. Mel Bessellieu as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Robert was born June 1, 1926 in West, the son of Floyd and Rosalie (Divin) Smajstrla. He attended schools in Cottonwood and Arlington Heights. Robert served his country with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. On April 24, 1948 he was united in marriage to Doris Rejcek in West. Robert worked as a Chief Clerk for Texas & Pacific Railroad for 44 years, until he retired in 1986. He owned Garden Acres Country, a woodworking and arts & crafts store in Burleson and had booths at Way Out West in West and Nina's Country Crafts in Hillsboro. He was a founding member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Burleson, where he served on the Parish Council and was a former President of the Men's Club. Robert was also a member of SPJST Lodge #180 in Burleson. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and especially loved spending time with family. Robert is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Eddie Smajstrla; a granddaughter, Jennifer Smajstrla; and a brother, Herman Smajstrla. Survivors include his beloved wife of 67 years, Doris Smajstrla of Burleson; his children, Nina Jo Nors and husband Bill of Hillsboro, Bobby Smajstrla and wife Kathy, Mark Smajstrla and wife Cindy, Suzanne Janecka and husband Mike and Rick Smajstrla and wife Angie, all of Burleson; sisters, Christine Doskocil and Mary Ann Doskocil; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Billy Nors, Shawn Smajstrla, Andy Bailey, Chris Janecka, Mark Alan Smajstrla and Gary Doskocil. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospice, 6100 Western Place, Suite 105, Ft. Worth, TX 76107.
