Robert Dobecka

Robert Dobecka, age 78, of West, passed away Saturday evening, December 8, 2007 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek and Rev. Anthony Odiong as celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Robert was born July 19, 1929 in Corpus Christi, the son and only child of Ludvik and Georgie (Sacky) Dobecka. He attended schools in Mesquite and West before graduating from West High School in 1948. On February 14, 1950 he was united in marriage to Lydia Mae Krizan in West. Robert was a farmer and rancher most of his life before retiring in 2000. Robert enjoyed crafts, woodworking, collecting junk, and driving his golf cart. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member of the K.J.T. Society No 31, Czech Heritage Society, West Area Young Farmers, West Sokol, West Longhorn Club, and a very active member of S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 6 in Cottonwood. His parents and a daughter, Therese Dobecka, preceded Robert in death. Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years, Lydia Dobecka of West; two sons, Robert H. "Bobby" Dobecka and wife Peggy of Chalk Bluff and David Dobecka and wife Stacy of Killeen; three daughters, Carol Ann Toliver and husband William of Holland, Delores "DeeDee" Wolf and husband Bill of West, and Shirley Romero also of West; thirteen grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one nephew; and other relatives, and friends. Active Pallbearers are Kevin Dobecka, Delton Stuckly, Ernest Bezdek, Tony Mabile, Cecil Dobecka, and Mark Dobecka. Honorary Pallbearers are the members of SPJST Lodge #6. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Parish Center or West EMS.
