Robert Ayers

Robert J. Ayers, age 75, of Lacy Lakeview, passed away Sunday morning, February 12, 2006 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Lester Adams officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 4819 of West. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Ayers was born February 10, 1931 in Hominy, Oklahoma the son of Wilbur J. and Grace (Thompson) Ayers. He was raised and attended school in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. On January 24, 1952 he was united in marriage to Peggy Kyle in West. Robert retired from the United States Air Force in 1969 after 20 years of service. He had worked several civilian jobs throughout the community with the most recent being at Brookhaven Youth Ranch near Gholson. He was a member of Karem Shrine and Lee Lockwood Lodge. Robert was also a Mason and member of V.F.W. Post No. 2148 in Waco. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed gardening. Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Ayers; his parents; a sister, Shirley Stoddard; and a brother, James Ayers. Survivors include his beloved wife of 54 years, Peggy Ayers of Lacy Lakeview; three sons, Dennis Ayers and wife Vickie of Hewitt, Danny Ayers and wife Kathy of Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, and Daryl Ayers and wife Karen of West; a brother, Charles Ayers and wife Frances of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; two sisters, Charlotte Murphy and husband Lloyd of Golden, Missouri, and Bonita Nelson and husband Boyd of Bellgrade, Montana; a brother-in-law, Don Stoddard of Golden, Missouri; six grandchildren, Andy Ayers, Clay Ayers, Mendy Hanson, Monica Miller, Aleisha Walburn and Ethan Ayers; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Andy Ayers, Clay Ayers, Ethan Ayers, Michael Miller, Keith Hanson and Danny Pickens. Memorials may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital.
