Richard L. "Lambert" Matus, age 66, of West, passed away late Thursday night, May 7, 2020 at his residence. A private rosary will be recited Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West. Graveside Service will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2020 St. Mary's Cemetery with Rev. Ed Karasek officiating. There will be a LIVE STREAM of the service. Richard will lie-in-state Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Richard was born January 29, 1954 in Waco, the son of Raymond and Rosalie (Marek) Matus. He was a 1972 graduate of West High School. Richard was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He was also a member of Cotton Delinters Association, the local Catholic Life Association, and the Knights of Columbus Council #2305, where he formerly served as Grand Knight. Richard was the owner (along with other family members) of Cen-Tex Seed in Hillsboro for over 40 years, a company originally started by his great uncles, Felix and Charlie Matus in 1961 and then purchased by his father, Raymond Matus. Richard enjoyed gambling, playing golf, eating sweets, and generally giving orders and being in charge. He loved spending time with family and friends. Richard is preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Kendra Kaye Matus. Survivors include his beloved children, Kristi Rizo and husband Chad, Kelli Grochoske and husband Jason, Matthew R. Matus and wife Christi, and Suzanne Matus and fiancée Austin Faglie, all of West; his sister, Rose Ann Morris and husband Eddie; his brother, Steve Matus and wife Deirdre; the mother of his children, Susan Matus; grandchildren, Hunter, Logan, Zoe, Emma, Elle, Gigi, Eli, Clementine, Kendra, and Hudson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Keaton Matus, Jonathan Morris, Brandon Roznos, Mark Snokhous, T.J. Holecek, Edward Zahirniak, Bill Wolf and Thomas Wolf. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Rest Haven Memorial Fund.
