Reynold N Ron' Cap Straten

Reynold Straten (aka "Cap'n Ron"), age 83, of West, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 27, 2019 at his son's residence near Aquilla. A rosary will be recited and memorial service held 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2019 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Will Straten officiating. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Reynold was born November 28, 1935 in West, the son of George and Agnes (Podsednik) Straten. He attended schools in Tours and West. On May 15, 1982 he was united in marriage to Cyndie Nading in Waco. Cyndie preceded him in death on May 27, 2016. Reynold was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours. He worked for General Tire and Rubber Company for 30 years and then worked in the maintenance department for the West Independent School District prior to retiring. Reynold enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved being around the water, camping, boating and fishing with friends. He was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and was a member of West VFW Post #4819 and American Legion Post #478. Reynold is also preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, George, Herman and Vernon Straten. Survivors include his children, Randal Straten of West, Kevin Straten and wife Connie of Kosse, Tammy Shinn of North Carolina, Rick Straten and wife Becky of Whitney, Leanne Slayton and husband Doyle of Little Elm; brothers, Robert Straten and wife Linda, David Straten and wife Dorothy, and Johnny Straten and wife Brenda; sisters, Patsy Halamik, Rita Jerek and husband Richard, Dolores Otto, Virginia Bartosh and husband E.J., and Annette Bettge and husband Bill; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Martin Cemetery Association or West VFW Post #4819.
