Raymond L. Poteet, age 71, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at his residence. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Old Lebanon Cemetery near Aquilla, with Dr. John Crowder officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 4819 of West. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Poteet was born on July 28, 1934 in West, the son of Frank Marlin and Eula (Willis) Poteet. He attended schools in Waco. In serving his country, he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Alabama and Kansas for two years. He worked as a rocket fuel tester for Phillips Petroleum, Rockyne and Hercules, Inc. in McGregor for over forty years until his retirement in 1998. Raymond loved collecting model cars and coins, playing cards and always looked forward to watching Gunsmoke. His loving companion of 15 years, Glenease Bessire, who died on April 4, 2002; his parents, and three brothers, James Poteet, Billy Poteet and Bobby Poteet, all precede him in death. Survivors are his children, including a daughter, Debra Parsons and her husband Robert of Alvin; two sons, Billy Poteet and wife Brenda of Hewitt, Dean Poteet of Speegleville; his grandchildren including Stephanie O'Conner of Austin, Logan and Jared Poteet of Hewitt, Brandon and Cameron Poteet of Speegleville; dear friends and caregivers, Cindy Knapek of West and Carol Riggs of Hewitt; and a sister, Marie "Bea" Reddoch of Roswell, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Old Lebanon Cemetery.
